Dick Budd, from Maine, died on April 24 after suffering a fall at home. The longtime bridge partner of Dottie Kelleher, he was a Grand Life Master who won the 2000 Baze Senior KO with Rich DeMartino, Pat McDevitt and the late, great Robert Ryder, Bill Hunter and Shome Mukherjee. He had 4 NABC+ 2nds, and in 2021, he won the Super Senior Pairs with John Hrones, Jr.
More importantly, Dick was everything bridge represents…an excellent player, great partner, friendly at the table, and gracious with everyone who had the pleasure of playing at his table. No matter who he talked bridge with, novice or expert, he always treated them as a bridge equal, always congenial and encouraging. He was also a dedicated bridge volunteer, serving as
President of the Maine Bridge Association, District 25 Recorder, and on numerous NABC Appeals Committees over a span of many years. You can read his complete obituary here.
R.I.P. Dick. We’ll miss you.
